Is Ketamine Assisted Therapy for Me?
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) offers new hope for those experiencing a wide range of clinical concerns such as depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and anxiety, especially when traditional treatments have not been effective. A growing body of research highlights the many benefits of Ketamine including quick symptom relief, deeper emotional processing, neuroplasticity, and long-term emotional growth. With all the buzz about Ketamine, you may be wondering if KAP is an option for you.
When guiding clients in my practice, I encourage folks to consider timing and their current life circumstances when considering KAP. The typical treatment protocol consists of 1-2 preparation sessions, 6-8 dosing sessions, with integration sessions occurring 24-72 hours after each dosing session. Making the space in your life to integrate insights gained during KAP is when people see lasting transformation.
Who Can Benefit from KAP?
Need Relief – Clients who need relief from overwhelming emotions and nervous system dysregulation. KAP often works within hours to days, much faster than typical psychiatric medications.
Feeling Stuck – Clients who have plateaued or are not moving forward with current therapies. Ketamine can be an opportunity to reset repetitive thoughts patterns and explore new neural pathways.
Tried Other Treatment Modalities – There are, unfortunately, many people whose symptoms are not helped with medications or other treatments.
Motivated to Change – KAP is a significant investment of time and money and true healing unfolds with ongoing integration.
Seeking Deeper Healing- KAP offers the opportunity to explore deeper levels of personal transformation and pairs well with other psychotherapies such as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Have a Supportive Environment – KAP is not recommended for those currently in crisis or in an unstable environment. Choose a relatively calm period during which you have fewer obligations creates the space to fully absorb the KAP experience.
